About Ugo
WELCOME!
Hey there! I'm Ugo—a mom of four, a writer, and an iPhone photographer. By day, I work as an employment lawyer, but my true passion lies in writing. My stories often revolve around family warmth, the gifts of nature, and the joys and challenges of parenting.
My writing adventure began with bedtime stories for my children and grew into a passion for children's literature. Publishing my stories has been an incredible experience, sharing the wonders of the world through young readers' eyes.
Before returning to law, I had a meaningful chapter as a community organizer on Nun's Island, a small neighbourhood in Montreal. There, I founded a local family center called Espace Famille—a place where families could come together and support each other on the journey of parenthood. As an immigrant and mother, I understood the challenges of settling in and finding a community. I remember the familiar feeling of being new and a bit lost. Countless afternoons spent at the park, hoping to connect with fellow moms or find playmates for my kids, led to a realization that if I was struggling, surely others were too. That's when the idea for Espace Famille Île des Sœurs was born.
Over its eight years of existence, the center became a sanctuary for young families seeking connection and growth. It was a hub where tired moms met other parents, and seeing friendships blossom beyond the baby years reminded me of the power of community and the strength we find in each other.
I also started the Community farmers market, where families could come together on Sundays, buy fresh vegetables, enjoy delicious food, and create lasting memories. This project had a significant impact on how I perceive food. Building relationships with local farmers, understanding their challenges, and witnessing their genuine passion for farming helped me develop a greater appreciation for fresh, locally-grown produce. Seeing the delight on families' faces as they explored the market highlighted for me the simple yet profound joys of community.
Transitioning back to law after this community work was a shift, but I found purpose in advocating for workers' rights and supporting businesses.
Now, as I dive deeper into children's book writing, I'm reminded of the joy of crafting stories for my children. Nature continues to inspire me, whether I'm writing at my desk or exploring the outdoors. Welcome to my world, where law meets storytelling, and every moment is filled with creativity and exploration.
